HARMONIUM AND POLYPHONIE – Prema Arts, Gloucestershire
April 6 @ 7:30 pm| £12
This wordless spiralling of women’s voices, embraces many interlocking vocals forms, from the hauntingly beautiful Baka Pygmy women’s rainforest singing (which Su learned over many trips to Cameroon) Meredith Monk’s choral pieces (under whom she studied in 2017) to the Indian classical sing form Dhrupad ( studied in Bhopal this winter).
This experiment in vocal sound has been created by layering voices using interlocking rhythms and harmonies. Join them tonight for the opulent sound making, harmonies, rhythm and vocal blending which is simultaneously vibrant whilst bringing a sense of peace.
Harmonium” was written in collaboration with composer Sian Croose and the 2nd part “Polyphonie” in 2017 and has been enthusiastically received. The work will be performed with a new piece especially for and inspired by Uley.
